Sam DeMarie

is an Assistant Professor of strategic management in the Department of Management,College of Business, Iowa State University. Professor DeMarie earned his Ph.D. degree from Arizona State University, Tempe. He also earned an M.B.A. degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and a B.S. degree in accountancy from Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff. His current research focuses on the effects of new technologies on competition and the workplace, including the emerging phenomena of virtual organizations, virtual teamwork, and e-commerce.

Using Virtual Teams to Manage Complex Projects

This report examines how new technologies are reshaping the workplace. The project studies how the U.S. Department of Energy and its contractors and subcontractors are using advanced information and communication technologies to manage a highly complex Radioactive Waste Management Project at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. The Yucca Mountain project has begun to implement -virtual teamwork- as a means to provide more efficient and effective collaboration among employees. Human Capital Management
