Announcing the Center’s New Visiting Fellow: Dr. Karen Hardy
With over 30 years of federal experience, Dr. Hardy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in risk management and leadership. Her background includes senior roles at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, where she served as the Director of Risk Management and first Deputy Chief Risk Officer.
Dr. Hardy led the Department of Commerce's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) initiative, which was recognized by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) as a federal Best Practice. Her work has been credited with pioneering risk management literature across government, and she has received numerous awards for her performance, including two bronze medal awards.
As a respected thought leader in her field, Dr. Hardy has shared her expertise as a keynote speaker at events including Harvard University and the United Nations Office of the Under-Secretary-General. Her research and publications have been widely recognized, and she is a founding member of the Association for Federal Enterprise Risk Management. Publications she has written for our Center include the report: Managing Risk in Government: An Introduction to Enterprise Risk Management and blog: Evolving the Enterprise Risk Management in Government: Reflections of a Risk Management Professional. We are thrilled to have Dr. Hardy join us as a fellow and look forward to the valuable insights and perspectives she will bring to government.
Dr. Hardy holds a BA in Communication/Journalism from Hampton University, an MBA, and a Doctor of Education in Human Resource Development and Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
