Typically, we think of the GAO focusing on territory familiar to auditors, which is what most of the high risk list does: managing federal real property, DOD supply chain management, NASA acquisitions management, modernizing federal disability programs. But now it has added a politically-charged topic to its list, but has taken the middle of the road on the topic.

With the end of the national energy shortage, efficiency efforts were ultimately re-cast and broadened to become “sustainability” initiatives. Will energy efficiency continue to be a federal priority in coming years?

The November 15th release of federal department and agency annual performance and accountability reports went largely un-noticed. Not a mention in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal or Washington Post (even its Federal Page).
